is it possible to join two tables having no matching fields. for example: can i join CAR table with EMPLOYEE table. I tried creating define fields in the respective master files as below: *********car******** DEFINE CNT/I10 WITH CAR=CNT +1;,$ ******************** *************employee******* DEFINE CNT/I10 WITH EMP_ID =CNT+1;,$ ****************************
when i try to use these fields for joining in report assistant i am not able to join.
Any thoughts over this.

Joins that are based on virtual fields use DEFINE-based syntax to create a virtual field in the host file that can be joined to a real field in the cross-reference file.
The DEFINE expression that creates the virtual host field may contain only fields in the host file and constants. It may not contain fields in the cross-reference file.
you talk about Report Assistant, are you in Developer Studio or in InfoAssist ?
In 77x, InfoAssist doesn't support file generation that can be the solution, if you need so, you have to use InfoAssist in WebFOCUS 8.
