[CLOSED]Multiple report using the same image. Image gets copied.
Hi all, help me out here. Confused

I have a logo I'd like to use in several reports.
These reports are in various domains and folders. ( because of authorisation and out of convenience, we don't want to change that. )

I can upload an image to either EDA-server or a Content folder.
But when I want to add it to report ( PDF ) the checkbox "Include as reference" is disabled.

If I proceed the image is copied from the original location to the folder the report is in.
So when I use it in 50 reports, I have 50 copies of the image.

Why does it do this? Why is my "Include as reference" disabled?

I do NOT want to update all images when the logo changes... Sweating

Greets,
Dave

Had the same issue myself. We are on 8.1.05 currently.

I've opened a case a while back on this and haven't heard anything back since October 7th. Hope to hear something soon.

Images within PDFs are included within the output data stream. As this is compiled on the reporting server, the image has to reside in a location where WFRS can access it.

To my knowledge there is no ability to reference an external image.

What is your case number?

My case is #22783574. My scenario is simply 3 different images placed within an HTML form that help showcase what output options the user has. I go to reference them from a central location in an app folder on the Reporting Server and the images are then replicated within the Content folder the HTML document sits in while the reference points to those instead. I know I can reference images from an app folder on the RS when adding them to reports, etc. but for some reason the HTML Composer tool won't allow it. Frustrating.

I would advise adding a note on the case to ask what is happening with the testing.

In Dev Studio 8.0.08 HTML Composer, when you reference any JS or CSS file by pointing and clicking, the JS or CSS file gets copied into the folder that the HTML page is in. This IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING and MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. The (non-documented) workaround is to type the full path of the JS or CSS file instead of pointing and clicking - this seems to defeat the purpose of not having to code.

Francis,

I've tried to type in manually the paths, and it still resets the reference to the newly created image the tool generated within the same directory as the HTML... It is annoying.

@Francis

we have a .css in the Public contentfolder. In all HTML's we include this.
Not manually, but by clicking in the GUI.

Works fine. ( doesn't get copied ).

My suspicion is that WF assumes not all users have access to all contentfolders/subfolders etc.

So if you include something from another folder, it might not work for all users.

...with the exception of the Public contentfolder ( as we experienced with the .css reference in HTML's ).

That's why I tried to have our logo image also in the Public folder, but to no avail.
