In one webfocus proc, i made a hold file and a conditional join, to decrease the numbers of rows being handled. now i'd like to make a summary and detail report, with the summary drilling down to the detail. is that possible in the same proc? the drilldown mechanism seems to prefer a totally new proc. Thank you for any advice.

Yes, the drill down can call the same procedure (i.e., call itself). You would need to use some kind of variable value defaults and testing at the top of the procedure to determine whether it should run the summary or detail version of the report. But you would still need to hold your data in a more permanent location (via APP HOLD or use of FOCACCHE), because the drill down call initiates a new WF server agent and all data stored by the previous agent is lost. In other words, using the same procedure for both summary and drill down may not gain you anything. Once you start using APP HOLD or FOCCACHE, concerns about multiple users running ths same report at the same time must be dealt with to prevent one user's report data from overwriting another's. Appending userids to the hold file names is one way to make the hold files unique. Another approach is to permanently store all data necessary to respond to any report request in a FOCUS table that is created per a schedule (i.e., nightly). If the amount of data stored is reasonable and indexes are strategically used, response time for both summary and detail drill down reports can be very fast.

You also might want to try looking into an accordian-style report. That way you can show the summary report and if the user wants detail, they can just expand the desired section on demand without having to "re-run" any report. I haven't ever had the requirement to use this, so I can't give details, but that's the gist of the functionality as I understand it.
