Depending on how and where you are running the code you have varying values for
&FOCFEXNAME, &FOCFOCEXEC and &FOCINCLUDE
Devstudio edaserve
&FOCFEXNAME (returns focexecname.fex when open in editor, focexecname when not open) &FOCFOCEXEC (returns _focexecname.fex when open in editor, _focexecname when not open) &FOCINCLUDE (returns focexecname.fex when open in editor, focexecname when not open)
Devstudio projects
&FOCFEXNAME (returns ADHOCRQ when open in editor, focexecname when not open) &FOCFOCEXEC (returns _ADHOCRQ when open in editor, _focexecname when not open) &FOCINCLUDE (returns ADHOCRQ when open in editor, focexecname when not open)
Devstudio MRE
&FOCFEXNAME (returns ADHOCRQ when open in editor, focexecname when not open) &FOCFOCEXEC (returns _ADHOCRQ when open in editor, _focexecname when not open) &FOCINCLUDE (returns ADHOCRQ when open in editor, focexecname when not open)
This post is a great resource, but there's one situation missing: I have an HTML Composer page that populates a control with an external fex, so this is not INCLUDE or EX. I wonder what the values of these variables are when I open the file in the GUI...

For some reason, even though I turned off the HTML Composer Preview settings - Report and Graph Preview, my multi-select tree control retrieves all the values.
I thought I could bypass this by detecting if the external procedure that loads the tree control is running via HTML Composer - only retrieve 10 rows, but it doesn't work - all rows are returned.
-* Reduce the number of output rows for HTML Composer design mode only (doesn't work)
-IF &FOCFEXNAME NE 'ADHOCRQ' GOTO NOLIMIT;
WHERE READLIMIT EQ 10
-NOLIMIT

uh ... i don't see how that would be possible. its adhoc only if the fex is open in the editor. being a drop-down populator external fex, summoned up by the html page, wouldn't constitute the external fex being 'open in the editor'...hence named 'adhoc'. Did i understand what you're doing right?

susannah, I was hoping I would be able to detect in the external procedure that loads a control whether or not is was called while running in the HTML Composer GUI editor or called while running normally...
