We have a table that has 200,000,000 rows in it. It takes forever to hit against it. Our Informix DBA says the table is horizontally partitioned. I read in the help that I need to use the accessfile attribute in the master file, and set up an accessfile for each partition. The DBA said that informix does that automatically for the user and that the accessfile attribute won't affect the speed. anyone with knowledge or thoughts on this?
Do you use SQL Passthru? I have never had to deal with a 200 mil row table and have never heard of "horizontally partitioned" Informix tables, so I don't know if my answer will be useful. We do however access quite large Informix tables here that are fragmented. We do that using SQL Passthru. It did not work, performance vice for us, when we used regular WebFOCUS access into the data. By using SQL Passthru, we can use all (most of) the regular Informix syntax.
