When my report is run using EXL2K, it asks to log in to the WebFOCUS server , repeats the Log prompt three times, after entering User ID and Password three times, then Excel throws the message about WFServlet.xls file is different than the file type specified.. Click Yes, No Help...
We click Yes and see the excel file.. but it is very annoying..
Would like to have the file automatically open in Excel as it does in PDF..

Is your Reporting Server running with Security ON? Though, it shouldn't prompt for 3 times even after supplying.
When you've MS 2007 or higher, but still would like to use EXL2K(for border styling etc..), it prompts to trust the source. You'll find lot of info in techsupport, even we had a similar request when there was a transition from XP to Win7. If my memory serves correctly, we're told, its the behaviour as expected and nothing to do it from WebFOCUS end(MicroSoft implementation).

Same here, but you can just click Cancel once instead of doing all that typing 3 times.
WebFOCUS 8.1.03, Windows 7-64/2008-64, IBM DB2/400, Oracle 11g & RDB, MS SQL-Server 2005, SAP, PostgreSQL 11, Output: HTML, PDF, Excel 2010 : Member of User Group Benelux :
I also just 'Cancel' instead of entering the userid and password. I have been told the 'file type specified' message is because the format of the excel file does not match the current version of Excel running on the user machine. In my case, all my reports are saved as FORMAT EXL2K (.xls), but the version of Excel on the user's machines is Excel 2010 or later. To stop receiving the excel message, I have been told to use EXL07. I am not positive what version of WebFOCUS is required to use EXL07. Due the version of the reporting server I have running, I have not been able to verify this will eliminate the message.
