The person installing Focus 7.3.7. Just dropped off ducumentation about changes and known problems. The section and solution on "Increased cpu running Focus" for SU machinces does not make sense. We use Tabkes and Maintains agianst SU databases. The command

"GLOBALV SELECT IBIPARM SET MFXON=1'

is not not a Focus SET command but a VM command. If it is correct what is it doing and how does it work. In addition what happens when the Sink Machine is "STOPed" and master is changed. How is the new master put into memory?

Hi Claude,

This is from one of our Product Managers:

"On a VM system, there is no "seperation of Church and State". While it is true that the GLOBALV command is a VM command and not a FOCUS command, it does affect the VM environment that it is issued in.

In this case, the GLOBALV command is telling the FOCUS environment which is loaded into memory (virtual storage) to turn on a FOCUS option. This option has the same affect as a SET command issued from within FOCUS.

The functionality of the server is the same as it has always been in regards to your query. When the sink is stopped, it (the sink) closes all database files and threads) then it stops.

I believe that there are two parts to your query. To paraphrase - what happens when you change the master? The answer is that this new file is opened and kept open until the sink is stopped.

The purpose of the feature is to keep a database file open in the sink in order to reduce the overhead of opening and closing the file each time it is accessed."

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Jennifer
