My company is starting to incorporate geocoding into some of our internal systems. This has caused us to look at the license agreements of the "free" geocoding web entities like google maps.
We have found that the license agreements place restrictions on how we can use this data, and whether we can store the data.
We have found, for example, that we cannot use the free Google Maps license to feed an application that is NOT PUBLIC FACING. We have also found that we are not allowed to store the geocode data.
If we have a need to use this information on our private intranet, we must pay for the premium license from Google...and this involves informing them of our intended use, and then a presumably value-based price quotation from Google.
Has any other forum member's organization looked at these limitations, and potential costs? Has anyone purchased a premium license?
Does anyone have a different interpretation of the Google Maps license agreement? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Kerry,

Thank you for sharing the info with all. Just wondering: is this question related to WebFOCUS and/or iWay? Would it better help if you post on a forum that emphasizes more on "geocoding" or related?
Cheers,
Kerry

I posted this question on this forum because IBI's support for integrating with Google Maps seems to have generated at least some activity among this forum's members in this area, as gauged by the 50 responses to forum searches on "geocode", "geocoding", and "google maps".
Within the search results, is plenty of evidence that many WF forum members have looked at the technology, but there seems to have been only a short discussion of the licenses in this forum.
I was hoping that someone in the forum had experience with google's premier license...rather than just a guess about its cost.
Thanks for the suggestion, Kerry. I'll try a different forum.

Thanks Mike for clarification. I will not close this topic, but rather leave this as [SHARING], just in case other experienced folks can share their thoughts and suggestions here.
Cheers,
