If we have a field that is alpha and greater than the length of 12 the field displays in exponential notation when brought into csv. This is normal to be exponential notation. The problem is when you click on the field to expand it, it does not expand. It stays in exponential notation. This only happens if you have a numeric in an alpha field and the value in the field is 12 digits or more. So, if I have a field defined as a25 but only have 11 digits in it, it will expand just fine, but if another row is 12 digits, it won't show the actual value in that row without changing the column to text or reformatting the field manually. Is there a way to get this field to work properly in csv and to expand when we click on the column to show the actual data values? I searched the web a few weeks ago and I found some bug info but I'm not finding anything today. I'm hoping someone else has come across this and knows a way to fix it.

What output format are you using to get your CSV file?

The example below creates a long value and saves to a format COMMA, which gives a file extension of .PRN. When opened and parsed into Excel the LARGE_VAL column is affected in the same manner as your comments. However, the FTOA_VAL parses just fine because it is actually dealt with as an alpha numeric value.

Perhaps this is a possible solution for you?

p.s. If you are parsing your file then you can always specify that the column in question is dealt with as text and not general format.

we are using format alpha. In my hdr file that indicates what format the fields are, I indicate that it's text so that's why it's surprising me that it's not being treated as text. I'll try the comma format but I'm not sure what downstream impacts that will have ... I will have to contact the business to see if that format will work for them. We've been using the format alpha for years.

Have you changed version of WF lately or has the value only just begun to reach the 12 digit apparent cut-off? If it's the latter of course then you might have had the potential problem for a while without knowing it. If it's the former then a change of function within WF is not good (for anyone) and probably needs to addressed by the product team in NY.

the business thinks the problem has been around for a while and they just haven't noticed it. We don't have that many account numbers that are 12 digits or more, so it's not going to show up a lot. We have not recently upgraded (we went to 5.3.3 spring of last year).
