A column defined as I11 is subsequently used in a DEFINE as a date and it runs without error in v7.7.03, but generates an error in v7.7.02.

Field in HOLD file:
MTH/I11

Used in DEFINE:
WMTH/Mtr = MTH;
WMTH_MINUS1/Mtr = WMTH - 1;

Values seem to get evaluated correctly: July,June. I tried MTH 1 and got January, December.

In v7.7.02 I get this error:
(FOC282) RESULT OF EXPRESSION IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE FORMAT OF FIELD: WMTH

I wonder if this is a new feature in v7.7.03 - assigning an integer to a date field?

I would have thought that if you can go from format M to I, then I to M should be OK too.

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT COMPUTE CDATE/YYMD = '&YYMD' ;
COMPUTE Day/D  = CDATE ;
COMPUTE Mth/M  = CDATE ;
COMPUTE Year/YY= CDATE ;
COMPUTE IDay/I4= Day;
COMPUTE IMth/I4= Mth;
COMPUTE IYear/I4= Year;

BY COUNTRY
END

Prehaps its an enhancement ?

Come on now remember that5 when IBI went to the Smart Dates back in Mainframe release 6.xx We all learned that the date was stored as the number of days from 01/01/1901.

DEFINE FILE CAR
JAN_15/YYMDY=19010115;
JAN_15I/I5=JAN_15;
END
-*
TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT JAN_15 JAN_15I
BY COUNTRY
END
