Background execution of reports

Is there any way to defer a report request? As in say a JSp is calling the WF servlet and a report is executed but since the report takes time, I need to defer the run of the report and then display a message saying "Report request submitted..."

Also...have you tried submitting the report in ReportCaster and just have the results sent via e-mail?
