[CLOSED] create oracle table with varchar2
Hi all

I'm trying to create an oracle table with varchar2 and I can't get it done.

As an example I created a small simiulation with the CAR DB:

 -SET &ECHO				= 'ALL';

-SET &ORACLE_DB			= 'DB01';
-SET &ORACLE_TABLE		= 'CAR05';
-SET &ORACLE_USER		= 'USR01';

ENGINE SQLORA SET DEFAULT_CONNECTION &ORACLE_DB
-*ENGINE SQLORA SET ORACHAR VAR
-RUN

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT DEALER_COST
BY COUNTRY
ON TABLE HOLD AS &ORACLE_USER.EVAL.&ORACLE_TABLE.EVAL FORMAT SQLORA
ON TABLE SET ASNAMES ON

END
-RUN

But the Country still is a field with type CHAR (length 10) and just filling the the rest with spaces.

'JAPAN' is not 5 characters long but 'JAPAN ' 10 characters (because of the 5 spaces at the end).

Many thanks for your help.

WFtESTER,

I am following up on your question about create oracle table with varchar2

Please review the following and see if it helps.

ORACHAR: Setting needed for other RDBMS

Let us know what your results are from the above and your other testing.

Thank you for participating in the Focal Point Forum.

Thank you Tamra for the link. I've found this information already and as you can see I have it in the first post mentioned (uncommented).

Id did different tests but it's always creating "CHAR" Types in the Oracle DB.

As a workaround I crate it with CHAR, change it than in the DB and in the master file to VARCHAR2 (and A*V) but I guess it should be possible without this workaround.

How would the above mentioned example with the CAR DB look like?

Many thanks for your help.

Best regards

You can tell the Oracle connector how you want to "map" WebFOCUS formats to the RDBMS formats.

I know you can do it when you create WebFOCUS synonyms from the RDBMS. There is probably a way to do it vice-versa. Try researching that on the oracle connector.
