The open source source control management tools are generally considered better than Microsoft's implementation, which makes sense if you consider that open source development tends to happen in development teams that are all over the world.
Have a look at Subversion (SVN) and Mercurial (Hg) and possibly Git (which I have no experience with). All of these have Windows clients.
None of them integrate well with Dev Studio though. Our solution is to just mount the file-system and use source control there, which works like a charm.
We use Mercurial because some of our development happens on OpenVMS, which isn't supported by SVN. Which is best for you depends on your needs.
