Hi, I'm able to receive the email from the report caster but once I try to open that which is in Excel format I get the error message " excel can not open abc.xlsx beacause the file format or the file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file".
This happens when we schedule the reports from report caster. The same reports open properly from the dashboard application in the Excel format.
Regards, SAMM

We encountered a similar problem with our web based email. The file opens fine with outlook but when we try to open it in Microsoft's OutlookWebApp it gives us that same exact error message.
We unfortunately did not find a solution because email administrator felt it was a webfocus problem.
You don't say what version of Excel you are using but we had the same problem when we moved to Excel 2010.
This is a security feature called "extension hardening". Excel is checking the extension to be sure the file format fits the file extension, this is, it is checking to see if a file with a .xls extension is really a .xls file.
To turn this off requires a simple registry change.
It may not be a WebFOCUS issue What email app are you using (Outlook? Lotus? Other?)? Try sending the excel file to a web-based email service (even Gmail) and see if it opens correctly from there.

Me too have same issue with Excel 2010. We have around 100 users. And it is hard to make this registry change in every users PC. Is there any solution at WF Client level. So that it will be one place fix.
Ram, I doubt any change at the Client would work. I work for the Oklahoma Dept of Human Services and we have thousands of users. All of our PC congifurations (desktop and laptap) are controlled by the IT division. They control all OS and standard software updates (IE, Windows, Adobe, Office, etc.) They were able to apply this registry change to all PCs in OKDHS. I don't know what tool they used but maybe your IT dept can do the same thing.
In FOCUS since 1985. Prod WF 8.0.08 (z90/Suse Linux) DB (Oracle 11g), Self Serv, Report Caster, WebServer Intel/Linux.
