I am completely new to WebFocus and was wondering if there are any good beginner guides to the Focus language. I saw that someone had recommended a manual, but I'm not so much interested in reading a manual. I have a solid background in programming with ColdFusion and PHP, so if the book is addressed to programmers, that would be fine.

Anything that would be good to learn from and is fairly comprehensive would be awesome. Thanks!

Hi Chris,

The only two manuals that are for beginners are the FOCUS Report Writing Primer (DN1000021.0592) and the FOCUS Getting Started manual (DN1000036.1085).

You can view and download the FOCUS Report Writing Primer manual; or you can buy both of these manual from the Technical Documentation Library.

If you have an InfoResponse ID, login on the Tech Support web site and then access the Library. By logging in first, you can download the PDF file and/or view the HTMLHelp version.

You can access the Technical Documentation Library via the following Web sites:

(From the top navigation bar, click Services & Support. Then select Bookstore.)

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Jennifer

If you're familiar with programming techniques, and only need to know how to express yourself in the FOCUS 'language', then I suggest publication DN45000512.0103, copyright 2003, titled "WebFOPCUS Quick Reference Reporting Handbook". It's a 30 page folio containing the complete syntax of each FOCUS reporting statement showing the placement and value of every alternative word and/or parameter.
