I am trying to convert an I5 field called "SEQ_NO" to A5 by using ALPHA_SEQ_NO/A5 = EDIT(SEQ_NO). The resulting field changes values such as "1", "2", "3", "4", and "5" to "00001", "00002", "00003", "00004", "00005" etc. These values are now alphanumeric but I do not want the leading zeros. I have then applied the TRIM function to this field to get rid of leading zeros but nothing changes. Any suggestions? Also I have tried FTOA as well. This message has been edited. You can use FTOA or PTOA or FPRINT.
You need to convert to a formatted number.
EDIT will always have the leading zeros
