Does anyone know of a better approach to checking if FDS is up and running, other than ? SU suname.
With approaching 20,000 db transactions per day, many small, I find the overhead of the ? SU greater than the transactions themselves.

Thanks

Are you looking for something to do programmatically vs just looking at the service status in the WebFOCUS Reporting Server Web Console?

Programmitacally, but lightly.

I am not saying that FDS is flaky at all, the site does have 99.9% reliability record. But as most transactions end up with a financial flavour to them we cannot risk losing a one.
Thanks

The Reporting Server Web Console has an e-mail facility that you can set up to notify you if a special service has crashed.

Check out Workspace, Configuration, General, E-mail Notification.

I haven't tried it, but you may find it helps you in this instance.

Thanks kp

Email is a solution, but the users usually phone within a millisecond if there is a problem!

I was just trying to take a load off the server.

Maybe I just rethink strategy a bit.
