I have a synonym setup for a worksheet via direct retrieval. The Excel is on a share drive located in the home folder of the file system on the IBM iSeries/AS400. I can do a select SQL statement, but if I try to insert or update, I receive an error. When I qualify with the library name of the synonym I also get an error. I'm under the impression that I need the correct SQL engine. Typically, I use SQL DB2 because all the other statements have been for DB2 tables.
SQL INSERT INTO TABLENAME VALUES ('VALUE1','VALUE2','VALUE3'); END -EXIT
SQL INSERT INTO FOLDER/TABLENAME VALUES ('VALUE1','VALUE2','VALUE3'); END -EXIT
(FOC1400) SQLCODE IS -204 (HEX: FFFFFF34) type *FILE not found. This message has been edited. Last edited by: FP Mod Chuck,
WebFOCUS 768 OS/400 HTML, also quite a few active reports and excel.
An SQL statement without qualifying it with anything like DB2 will use the master file (synonym) under the covers. So you are doing this correctly. Does the master file exist? If it does is there a DATASET statement in it giving the location of the worksheet?
Please post the contents of the master file if it does exist.

In thinking about this more, I don't think the DIREXCEL is a read/write adapter. It is only for reporting. You may want to open a case with techsupport to verify.
