I could swear I did this before, even if it was just in an online class, but I would like to schedule a report (It's an alert, actually) to run and be emailed to a user.
However, for security reasons, I would like the report to not be in the body of the email or even attached to it. I would like a hyperlink sent in the email, such that the user would click on the hyperlink and the report would appear (From the Library, maybe?).
This report would run on a regular basis, so I suppose the report at the other end of the hyperlink would need to have a unique name.
This is probably very easy, but I have forgotten how. Is this possible or was I imagining things? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Squatch,

Squatch, if the distribution method is Report Library, the recipient will receive an email with a link. I don't think there any complications with this...

My concern is that I am trying to send a report via an alert that checks for selected information every 10 minutes, and that information will only be picked up once from the data source (The data can be checked to see if it is older than 10 minutes, and if so, then that data will not be reported on again).
So my concern is that I don't want the report overwritten, which would seem to imply a quasi-random filename in the Report Library is needed.
Now, maybe the Report Library takes care of this automatically... if that is the case, then I don't have anything to worry about.
But if the file is overwritten by succeeding reports, then I am in trouble.

Not quite sure where to find that...
I have changed the Expiration date in the schedule to 7 days.
If I schedule to the Report Library, I can specify a Library Access List, but this does not result in an email to Library Access List users. An email is crucial.
I successfully ran a schedule with the output to the Report Library, but with no email with a link, I have no clue how to get to the Library.
The schedule log mentions: "Alert is triggered. Turn on the alert flag in the repository." ???
In the Distribution part of the schedule, the "Folder Location" defaults to the Repository folder I have the alert, schedule and fex in. Not sure what that means...
And to top it all off, I can't find the student training manual for the ReportCaster online class I took over two years ago...

In this example, I have a "Private" report. On the "Options" tab I can choose to send an email. Play around with the "Access Options" on the General tab, then the "Options" tab.

Okay, so the "Report Library" results in a Report Library file that is dumped into whatever "distribution folder" you select under Distributions when creating a schedule.
The report is always the same name; it has an icon next to the report that looks like upright books next to each other.
If you right-click on this report name, you can select "versions"... so the report is actually a sort of container that contains all the instances of that report, one for each time the schedule runs.

LOL! I misread the two tabs as "General Options"... I thought it was just a label!
Thanks again, I think that will solve my problem.
