Hi,
I am facing problem in installation of webfocus 5.3.3.
prior to installation my system had IE 5.5, IIS, J2sdk, JDK 1.2.
I was able to install Webfocus. but when I start Developer studio it asks for Webfocus Logon: localhost. I don't know what to give in this logon window. Also developer studio shows Projects on Localhost disconnected.
Again when I tried to uninstall Webfocus 53 from program menu it shows error saying
A suitable JVM could not be found. Please run the program again using the option -is:javahome <JAVA HOME DIR>

I not so familiar with Java .Can anyone help in this . Also I would like to know about the role that Java plays in Webfocus.

Hi Anub,

Since this is an installation and configuration problem, please contact Information Builder's Customer Support for assistance. You can either call at 1-800-736-6130, or using the online system InfoResponse at http://techsupport.ibi.com .

FYI, according the message from one of our product managers, please verify the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) version on the workstation with DevStudio.
The JVM version should be 1.4.1 or higher, but not Java 1.5 since WebFOCUS is not yet certified with JVM 1.5.x.

Java plays a critical role in WebFOCUS. Java technology, as an application platform, provides run-time compatibility across multiple operating systems.
This means that each portions of WebFOCUS that uses Java does not require any code modifications for that same code to execute on another OS where Java is installed.

Other programming technologies, such as C or C++, produce binary executables that are for a specific Operating System, which commonly referred to as native code.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Big Grin

Kerry

we killed the java jvm altogether on our 533 install. and went with the microsoft one.
the microsoft one is available from the ibi website, just do a search for microsoft jvm, and download it. click here
and even on our 52n installation, we went back to microsoft jvm. works like a charm. SUN jvm , even 141, was an unbelievable headache. i highly recommend using microsoft.also, if you go to the tech support site, and do an advanced search on "microsoft jvm", you'll learn SO MUCH. the ibi folks have done so much to educate us all, its flat out amazing what you can learn there. they'll show you how to switch from one to the other. piece o' cake.
