The "McGyver" Technique is an all purpose technique that allows the application developer to look at each record multiple times, and take different action for each copy of the record.

For instance, in one pass through the data, multiple reports or worksheets could be produced, with the same details, but different sorts (a mailing list sorted by first name, last name and employee id) It was dubbed McGyver after the television show, where a swiss army knife and bubble gum wrappers could defuse a bomb.

Here, a sequential file, and some DEFINEs can solve many application problems. It is applicable to WebFOCUS and FOCUS - all releases and all platforms; and once you have the concept, can be coded using the text editors, or GUI tools!

We look forward to seeing you online.

Cheers,

For all of you that are new to FOCUS and WebFOCUS, I highly recommend this Webinar. I still have, and from time to time reference, the Systems Journal from 1994 (has it really been that long) that covered a lot of ways to use the McGyver Technique.

In FOCUS since 1985. Prod WF 8.0.08 (z90/Suse Linux) DB (Oracle 11g), Self Serv, Report Caster, WebServer Intel/Linux.
