Hello All - There is still time to register for Summit 2007 http://www.informationbuilders.com/events/summit/index.html

Thanks to everyone who submitted their Tips and Techniques for the contest at Summit. We have received about 15 great submissions that will all be debuted at Summit during our session. The Tips and Techniques contest will take place on Tuesday, May 22nd from 4:00-5:30.

We did change the rule about people being at Summit to win so if you have a technique but you will not be at Summit and have someone else from your company that will be present.

Noreen Redden will be presenting all of the Tips/Techniques during the session.

I look forward to seeing everyone there and hopefully we can do a group photo right after the contest.

Good luck to everyoneSmiler
Kathleen

It has been a great event, I enjoyed the sessions, the great presentations but moreover the shaking hand with several friends from FocalPoint and seeing all those people in real live.
The journey was long and exhausting but we arrived on time a few hours ago.
I hope we will all see us again next year.

Kathleen,

Thanks for posting the PPT for the session. It was a great session!

I would echo Kalyan's request for emailing all the docments of SUMMIT 2007 with a "Me Too!", but I know that a CD will be cut and sent out to all the attendees.

One area that does seem to generate confusion, however, is the hands-on lab files. Several people asked in the labs if the work files would be available, and were told "you'll get CD". One IB presenter mistakenly thought that the New Features mini-CD given as part of our welcome packs had the labs file for their presentation on them.

Well, after attending 2005 and 2006 Summit, I can vouch that the lab files are not on the Summit CDs. This is a bit disappointing, because though the powerpoint presentations are very valuable (and I am very grateful for them), they can't really be replayed for the Hands-on/Hands-free labs, as the supporting fex's, masters and application directories don't exist to run through. Even having just the "finished product" fexes would be beneficial.

Since many of the IB support staff seemed unclear what the scope of the Summit material would be available on the CD, I'd like to suggest at least making the application directory tree (ibi/apps) of the hands-on/hands-free labs available in ZIP form on the 2007 Summit CD. Granted, it won't pick up all the lab material (such as SQL Server-based master data), but it would cover a lot of the labs. The value of having the work files available would really enhance the already fantastic value and job you fine folks at Information Builders do for your customer base.

With warm regards,

I echo Prarie's sentiments, a great opportuniy to put faces to names especially FP members.
So thank you to all FP'ers that took the time to come and say Hi either during conference or at Susannah and my presentation, it was very much appreciated.

I would also like to thank Kathleen for her continued hard work in keeping FP in the lime light and all that entails. Especially when the demands on her time are great, Thanks Kathleen we appreciate you and your efforts.

And of course I could not let the opportunity to thank Gerry and his hard working team of professionals for all their help also, including the Wizard's - Noreen, Art and Mark - Steve H, Kathleen, MaryAnn, Diane, Amanda, and all the Marks, to just mention a few.

Hi,

Can somebody tell me if the tips & techniques will be available for download on this forum.

It would be nice if it was for all of us that couldn't make it to the summit 2007.

Many thanks in advance,

Tony,

Everything got home OK. Nothing broken. I need a couple of days to adjust again to the time zone change! Sounds like you two got home OK.

Frank,

I have no photos to post of the Summit. All I have is Hoover Dam photos and video on my phone. Maybe someone else has some to post!

Thanks!

Mickey

oh do share whatever that 'wednesday' night tip/techinique was, T and MickeyG???
JJI, as for your request for the nature of the T&Ts, i can speak for T and for me, ours are on the focal point site as full articles under the 'Focus On Developers' section. as for the rest of the handouts, they usually get posted for download in a few days.

Whats the 'best thing i learned at Summit'? ... i'll have to think about that as i unpack from the Grand Canyon... but i think that might be a good thread for someone to start... It was spectacular to meet our fellow pointers in person.

Susannah,

The Wednesday night tip had nothing to do with WF so not too sure that it would benefit Wink

Frank,

I have found any time difference can have an effect if the flight is 1) noisy 2) you don't get any sleep 3) you have loud youngsters nearby etc. etc. etc.
There was a "plastic doll (circa 1950s)" on our flight that decided to sleep when everyone was awake and wake when everyone else was asleep. So what I hear you say, well she was in the window seat and disturbed me everytime she wanted to stretch her legs - about every 15 minutes for 5 minutes - no sleep for me or my wife then (all say ahhhh).

As for photos, I shall upload some soon but will try not to include any of the Hoover Dam Wink as a) I think we have enough already b) I didn't go anyway Red Face

I will get permission from those in the photo's first Smiler

Keep well all

T

Here's one to get you started, it's me receiving the second prize from none other than Mr Cohen himself, thanks Gerry.

Not too sure what the hat was about - warlocks I hear you say, no no it's true I tell you! (let me know if you don't get that one and I'll try to explain via PM).

Note: Any comments along the lines of "pixie" or similar will lead to removal of names from my "buddies" list. Wink

Here's some FP'ers, Mickey and myself on the Friday night having been deserted by all and sundry. After a very pleasant meal in Planet Hollywood with my Wife Elaine, the three of us took a stroll around to catch some sights including the fountains at Bellagios. Undoubtedly the best sound around the casinos!!

It was nice to see you again Prarie and it's nice to meet you Frank and Kathleen Butler!

I'm going to post the problem I had on Focal Point just in case any old legacy systems are running the same old software and someone encounters the same problem! It took a huge team of folks to figure it out!

You'll never believe this one....

I support an old legacy system written in Focus Six for Windows by and end user area. The system launches a .bat file every night to do it's processing, lots of vendor files coming in, lots of MODIFYs. We access Focus Six via Terminal Services on a Windows 2000 machine. While myself and my business partner were at Summit, we had someone covering for us who would launch the .bat file and minimize the session at which time the .bat processing stopped dead - no CPU on the machine. Let me tell you, that was a difficult one to figure out, especially in the middle of the night!!! If I ran the batch from Caesars, it worked because it was not minimized. I'm not yet sure if there's a fix for this or not. The application has not been completely converted to WebFOCUS because it's supposed to go away! It was supposed to go away 7 years ago. I'm not sure if the latest Windows patch changed something in a registry. What a week!

I can't wait for the Summit CD to come out so I can see what I missed.

Carol

P.S. Any rumors where Summit will be next year? I heard Orlando or Texas. Caesar's will be a hard act to follow!
