I was trying to run a fex with the following where:

WHERE GROUP EQ 'EBD$*' OR 'KCMXYZ'

When I run this the second part of the OR is ignored.
When I change the second to
'KCMX$*' it does work.
What is wrong here?

I am not sure if you could use a Mask in a WHERE like that FD. When I tried this on the
CAR file, it was not returning any rows. I believe FOCUS was looking for the exact literal in the clause -
TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT MODEL
WHERE COUNTRY EQ 'ENG*'
END

Try using a FROM for the value range -

WHERE (
(GROUP FROM 'KCM ' TO 'KCMZZZ')
OR
(GROUP FROM 'EBD ' TO 'EBDZZZ')
)

Have a goooooooooood weekend !!

Actually, Susannah, you probaly would want to code it as:

WHERE GROUP LIKE 'EBD%' OR 'KCMXYZ'

The % acts like the $* whereas the __ limits the answer set to the specific length of the mask, in this case 5 characters.

Sorry. just being nit picky.

Thanks!

FYI,

The WHERE clauses in FOCUS use the same masking characters as WHERE clauses in SQL. I think this was done on purpose when WHERE was added to the FOCUS language so as not to confuse those familiar with SQL. Of course, most other search syntax in other languages and search engines on the web use the % character as well. Hooray for consistancy!

Thanks!

Would this mask thing work in numeric fields too?
Or do you have to convert it first to alphanumeric.
