I was working on Excel output with templates following a techsupport example. The example is using "APP FI DISK". If I replaced it with "FILEDEF * DISK" it won't work when using template. But if it's just a simple Excel output FILEDEF works.

I can't find the the usage of "APP FI" under "APP Commands Quick Reference" section of the "Developing Reporting Applications" document. What is the difference between "APP FI * DISK ..." and "FILEDEF * DISK ..."? Thanks.

I found this in the "Output Redirection Commands" chapter of Developing Reporting Applications documentation, Version 7 Release 7.03:

quote:
APP FI[LEDEF] - The APP FI[LEDEF] command has been deprecated and aliased to FILEDEF. For information, see the Stored Procedure Reference.

Interesting... But the fact is if I use FILEDEF to designate the template file, webfocus just complained template not found. Can you try on your environment?

When I worked with Excel templates, I put them in an app folder in the app path - I did not require FILEDEF.
