Sam,

If you are working in Dev Studio then use the HELP provided as it will contain many useful (and some not so useful Wink) references for you. If you do not have DS then use the search function top right on the post collection.

If you want date functions then just search on HDATE or something similar to help you find the function you need. Also search on DOWK and DOWKL.

You also should buy the book "(Almost) 1001 Ways to Work with DATES in WebFOCUS" to be ordered by IBI. It's only 25 U$.

And you can download several manuals in PDF, makes it very easy to search.

Yes, I do. That way you will learn and become more condifdent and able. If we were to just provide the answers all the time then how do people learn?

To resurrect an old saying -

Give a man a fish and he will eat well for one day.
Give him a boat and a rod and he will eat well for longer.

Also, download the Describing Data manual for your release. It has all the available formats for dates and every other type of field.

The GUI help also has some good information on date display. Hopefully you can get some training as well.

Sam,

As "tongue in cheek" as your comments are, you have to realise that you are the one requiring assistance and very rarely is it the top posters here that ask for assistance.

If I look through the member directory sorted by "highest karma", of the top ten listed I have met all but one or two, and I know that each one has 15 - 20 (or more years) experience of the FOCUS / WebFOCUS product group. They use it every day of their working lives but still find time to help those who will help themselves. Not because they might "lose their form", but because they have experience on how to get the best from the product. I don't think they're worried, do you?

FOCUZSAMBIT:
Never bite the hand that feeds you is what I always had been taught. This will assist you , but listen to Frank, Tony, Leah, Jgelona and others. Their suggestions are not made offhandedly but rather with patience and diligence. They are steering you correctly.
Hope this helps for now:

SET DEFCENT = '20'
DEFINE FILE CAR
CURRDAY/MDYY='&MDY';
CURRWKDAY/WTR = CURRDAY;
END
TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT CURRDAY CURRWKDAY

END

ihf,

Very close, but if only it were that easy - try this instead
-SET &DOWK = DOWK(&YYMD, 'A3');
-TYPE &DOWK
SET DEFCENT = '20'
DEFINE FILE GGSALES
CURRWKDAY/A3 = DOWK(DATE, 'A3');
END
TABLE FILE GGSALES
PRINT CURRWKDAY
BY REGION
END

Figured this is the best thread to tell you that I've all of a sudden become Platinum and I can't bring myself to own that karma unless I have answered, if not as much, then at least close, as I've asked. But then, I think it is quite obvious that my answers are not as "deep" as the Virtuosos out here, but hey, I try. One of these days somebody will drop a Summit and plane tickets on my lap and then I will get to meet you guys!

And here I go wasting my post count... sigh.

Sam,

I once had a boss tell me that the manuals were being worn out from so much use. Actually, he was being facetious. But he had a good point. Sometimes it is easier to ask for the answer than to research the answer.

That was 20+ years ago and I have since found that I retain the answers better if I actually look them up myself.

I too was directed to the book "(Almost) 1001 Ways to Work with DATES in WebFOCUS". It was indeed one of the best purchases I made in 2007. It cost me less than a night out (and a few calories that didn't make it to my hips Big Grin).

Remember, everyone like to help those who try to help themselves.

Many thanks to all of you here for all the inspiration. Even those of you who ask questions. Some of your questions have made me think of new ways to accomplish something.
