Is there anyway to print a file with a report?

i.e.

Report is called with a variable holding the filename.

Webfocus prints report and opens passed in file name and prints it with the report (before or after).

We have scenario's where users need to have "bundled" print jobs of this nature.

Any help or thoughts on the subject are appreciated.

Do you mean Attach a file? I'm don't quite understand what you are asking to do.

Sorry about that. Here is a more detailed description.

What we are attempting to do is to include a button in an application we are creating.

When clicked, it will call a report from WebFocus passing in some variable for the report to run off of, one of this will include a file name.

What we "hope" will occur next is that the report will generate and print immediately. Not go to HTML, XLS, PDF, etc.

If this first part is possible, the second part we hope to include is that it will print a document along with it.

So lets say we have report A and MS Word File Z.

When the report A is called, it will run then print.

Then it will immediatly run a print command against the MS Word file.

An example would be if we had a PO that we are printing from WebFocus, but need to attach a detailed document along with the printed report.

I have a feeling we will be doing all this through the code in the application, but I thought I would ask here first.

I think you're going to have a little problem with this one. WF returns a report through a client to the browser session that requested it. If it's a PDF doc then it opens the reader, if it's Excel, then it opens in Excel, or just displays in the browser for HTML. Each of these have their own print mechanism, so the printing will have to be either a manual process or something that you have coded in Java, javascript, macros, etc.

As for part 2, you can execute print commands from the operating system, but they are relative to that specific box/server where WF resides. In other words, 1) the document must exist on the WF server and 2)it still would not be able to deliver it to the printer that is sitting in your cubilce unless you have some way of driectly accesing that printer from the WF server platform.
There are a few options using the ReportCaster API that you could run the report and have it printed to a specifies network printer. This would invovle creating your own app using the API to schedule a "Run once" job to be distributed to a user-specified network address.

You should be able to produce a postscript file to send to a printer, assuming it supports it.

As for the second part, perhaps if Word is on your server,if you can do that, you could call it with an OS call.
