Trying to figure out how to display a variable setting in order to help me debug a procedure I'm working on.
Within a define statement in my procedure, I have the following code: FROMDATE/MDYY =HDATE(STARTAT, 'YYMD');
What I would like to do is add code to my procedure that would print out the value of variable FROMDATE as the procedure is being executed. I've tried using the TYPE command but can't seem to get anything to work?
Any suggestions appreciated!This message has been edited. Last edited by: Jeff_Rowland,
Use what Dan suggests and SAVE the file, then look in the relevant tscom3 folder within the EDATEMP folder for your temporary SAVE file and look at the contents.
Not overly useful on a job that does not run for a lengthy elasped period, but can sometimes be useful.

I guess to clarify, FROMDATE in the example you've give is not a variable. It's a defined field. It can't be displayed any other way except in a table request (or viewed ina HOLD/SAVE file as Tony suggests.
-TYPE cannot be used because you can't co-mingle Dialogue Manager commands with a table request in this way. The DM commands can only control the order of code processing, and cannot interrupt the data processing step. Once a table requests is submitted, it continues until the answer set is retrieved before any other commands, including DM commands, can be used. There isn't anything else that can occur "as the procedure is being executed." So a -TYPE cannot display the value of a field. (Hope that makes sense.)

Darin
