We are converting a Webfocus application from webfocus 7 to webfocus 8. I luanch a report from an HTML form. The Excel report comes up in the background. I have to logoff to get the excel message to open the report to come to the foreground.

There definitely is some odd behaviour with WF 8, IE 9, and Excel. If you already have a WebFOCUS generated Excel spreadsheet open and windows is focused on an IE window where you run another report in Excel format - there is no indication that Excel needs your feedback - you know, that annoying message about trying to open another file names wfservelet.xslx... And I keep getting prompted for Windows authentication before being able to open the file in Excel.

What I find the most curious about those authentication prompts is that it's sufficient to Cancel the prompt instead of filling in your credentials. The big benefit of cancelling is that you only need to do that once, while when providing your credentials you get asked to authenticate another 2 times (for a total of 3).
And indeed, it is quite annoying that Excel doesn't take focus. This issue regularly causes users to call us that their Excel reports aren't working when they are - they just didn't notice.

Yep, there's definately some odd behavior with WF 8, IE 9, and Excel, and even moreso with IE11. However, as far as i konw, WF Is not yet certified with IE11. Compatibility mode helps in most cases.
Have you consider useing FORMAT XLSX?

That's with self-service reporting and IWA ("Integrated Windows Authentication" through the IIS web server product).
