We are upgrading from WF714 to WF766. We have thousands of programs and about 300 ReportCaster schedules. We are wondering what other companies have done regarding the internal MRE names increasing from 8 bytes to a maximum of 64 bytes. When copying a program in MRE browser from one domain to another the name is changed from 8 characters to whatever the description is. When copying a program in DevStudio from one domain to another the name remains the same. Thanks.

You should NOT be copying them in a browser or DevStudio - that's asking for a heap of problems. There are migration tools provided for MRE and ReportCaster to move Managed Reporting environments and schedules to the new environment. The migration process is well documented in the manuals. Good luck. (We're taking that plunge soon as well.)

I am not copying the environment. I ran the migration utility to move the environment from WF714 to WF766. It was when we are copying individual programs from one domain to another that the names increased from 8 characters to more then 8 if using the browser. It could be from one domain to another in the Test environment or from Test to Production such as when promoting programs from Test to Prod. DevStudio keeps the names at 8 characters.
