[CASE-OPENED] Complex Issue Displaying Thai Unicode on PDFs
Hi there. We use WebFocus 7.6.2. on a Windows platform to display reports from an HTML page for Automotive dealers throughout the world. Our users click on a submit button on an HTML page, which runs a .fex report that prints as a PDF. Our WebFocus server is currently configured as LATIN-5, because until now we have only produced reports in English, French, Italian, etc.

We have been asked to begin running reports that will have headings in the Thai language. Our current fexes, which are simple text files saved as ANSI, use a simple check: If language is English, for instance, print the heading of "Dealer", else if the language is French, print the heading "Le Dealer."

When we try to copy and paste Thai 2-byte characters and save the file as Unicode UTF-8, we have issue where, because the previous headings were all in LATIN-5, it corrupts the French accents, etc., plus because our server is not confugured for Unicode, it won't print the Thai characters.

When we go into the the WebFocus configuration screen to update the NLS Configuration to Unicode, unfortunately it then corrupts the regular HTML on our HTML pages, because the webpages were not originally configured for Unicode.

Is there a way to, perhaps, make a separate INCLUDE fex that we could configure as UNICODE in order to save and print these THAI headings without corrupting our existing set-up, or is there a different workaround we could use?

Some people in the forum have pointed towards the "Creating reports With WebFocus section, but we can't see anything that would help us solve our issue.

We woudld apprecate any suggestions you might have. Thanks!

Hi Bradford,

Do you have an update/progress on this issue?

I passed this one internally and was suggested that you will need to open a case with Information Builders' Customer Support Service, who will help you configure a Unicode Environment. It may require 2 additional Server Licenses as well, depending upon how complex it gets.

To open a case, you may either call at 1-800-736-6130, or access online at InfoResponse. You will need to have an InfoResponse username/password to access the site (separate from Focal Point). If you did not register before, you will need to sign-up for a new username/password using your serial number or site code.

Hope this helps. Big Grin

Cheers,

Kerry

Hi Brad,

I saw that you just had a case opened for this issue. I will mark the subject line as [CASE-OPENED] and will wait to hear the solution from the case.

Cheers,

Kerry
