I have a webfocus report that I want to be able to click on a link and make notes about a particular set of data and save the notes. What is the best way to do this? Someone suggested using ASP.NET, but how would I do this?

Version: 8.0.0.6
Windows platform
All output formats will probably be used.

There are many ways, yes.

My suggestion, apart from ASP, JSP, etc would be to have the drill down to the notes, call a FEX that uses modify to write the notes somewhere, but this has limitations.

How large are the notes, and what will they be stored in ?

Notes could be lengthy, and will be written to an oracle database.

Other options, WebFOCUS wise, could be issueing SQL Insert/Updates.

How large ?

I hope it isn't from a Cut and Paste, I've experienced this before, and from Word you get nasty hidden chars in the paste.

Do you need to capture notes per report row, or one note for the whole report. If it's one note for the whole report, it shouldn't be too difficult to create an HTML form that is placed before or after the report, with a button to trigger a second WebFOCUS program to update the Oracle table with the information entered.

I need to capture notes per row. Also, I need the ability to check of 1 to many rows and apply a note to the rows that where checked.

I think you will have to hone your non-WebFOCUS skills with this one...
