hi,
i'm trying to connect to HIVE/Hadoop DB that has Impala working above it.
How can i connect to it using webfocus?
Using a generic JDBC driver to Impala?

Does anyone know? I cant test anything because i have to report that this can work before i have the infrastructure.

tks,
PA

I have never connected to a hive/impala db and neither have my coleagues so I can't tell you it works for sure but if there are odbc drivers for it and you have the odbc adapter, in theory it works. Try to get in touch with someone from techsupport, it might take some time for someone who has previously done this to see your post and reply.

Sorry I can't be of further assistance, good luck!

While there was a Release Candidate JDBC adapter for Hive (and Cloduera Impala) in Release 8.0/7.7.05 there has been a lot of work done since then so I'd recommend the Controlled Release 8.1/7.7.06.

From WebFOCUS you can access data managed by Hadoop using the adapter through a Hive or Impala server. We've found Impala to provide better throughput for use with WebFOCUS.

Tech Support should be able to provide you with a draft of the Adapter Administration Guide chapter.

ok, we compiled a jar with the automatic login via kerberos and add it to the IBI_CLASSPATH.
Now i can connect with success. that's good, but not enough. Now i have this error:

(FOC1400) SQLCODE IS -1 (HEX: FFFFFFFF) XOPEN:
: (0) [ ] Method not supported
(FOC1405) SQL PREPARE ERROR.

when testing the connection.

The output does not give me much to go...

Cloudera changed the names of some of their programs in CDH5 so we saw the Method Not Supported error on Test and Create Synonym when we started to certify that release.

That issue is addressed by our Project 157526 in Release 7.7.06 and 8.1 Gen 791 and later.

What release of CDH are you using? There could be other causes of this error.

Please confirm what release if you have upgraded as I recomended earlier. From your signature it appears you are still using Release 8.0 which doesn't have this support.
