[Solved] What are the date formats of the system variables?

When manipulating dates in the dialogue manager, I often stumbled in using the date functions because I don't know what the 'infmt' is of a given system date variable, eg &YYMD.
If I look up on "system variables", &YYMD has a format of CCYYMMDD. This doesn't look like a valid format for date funcitons, I seen posts here and there with "I8YYMD", what about the rest of the dates?
Can anyone show me where I can find the collective date formats of the system variables?

Thanks.

Hua

They are all strings. All &variables are strings. That being said they can also be USED as numbers (in a DEFINE) if you leave of the quote marks, but they NEVER come in as any date formats. They can be formatted differently, like &DATEMDYY, &DATEYYMD,&DATEMtrDYY, etc. but it's still just a string until you redefine it as something else. for example

TODAY_DT/A8YYMD='&YYMD';

or

TODAY_DT/I8YYMD=&YYMD;

Darin,

I am so confused, and some date functions are more restrictive than others.
-SET &date1 = DATECVT(&YYMD, 'I8YYMD', 'A8YYMD');
-SET &date2 = DATECVT(&YYMD, 'A8YYMD', 'I8YYMD');
-SET &date3 = DATECVT(&YYMD, 'YYMD', 'A8');
-SET &date4 = DATECVT(&YYMD, 'YYMD', 'I8');
-SET &date5 = DATECVT(&YYMD, 'I8', 'YYMD');
-SET &date6 = DATECVT(&YYMD, 'A8', 'YYMD');
-SET &date7 = DATECVT(&YYMD, 'A8', 'I8YYMD');
-? &date

CURRENTLY DEFINED & VARIABLES STARTING WITH 'date':
 &date1        = 20100202
 &date2        = 19001231
 &date3        = 20100202
 &date4        = 20100202
 &date5        = 20100202
 &date6        = 0
 &date7        = 0

Dan,

Thank you for the link. This is what I am looking for. Really appreciated.

No wonder why I keep using EDIT function after 2 years with WF.

John - I don't know if IBI purchased the book, but must assume some arrangement was made because it is freely available on their Website.
