Just checking: Is this a documented and supported feature of WebFOCUS 7? I'm sure it is in WebFOCUS 8, right?

As far as I know. Yes.

Keep in mind that behind the scenes, queries will be sent to both servers and pull data for local joining.

If they are large tables you may bring back many records.

Our cross-platform joins (Oracle to Netezza) from 7.7.02 continued to work, as we migrated to 8.0.07.

+1 to Waz's caveats.

You can join a table or file of one of 80 or so types to a table or file of another type, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily a good idea. Turn on SQL traces and you'll see why (as Waz mentioned). This can occur even if the two tables are of the same type but on different servers or accessed from different data adapter connections.

Doug,

Have you thought about using OPENQUERY? Look for it on MSDN.

The basic syntax is OPENQUERY ( linked_server ,'query' ).

Thanks everyone... I'll also consider the OPENQUERY Smiler We'er in the process of going live with 8004.
