Report Caster: Java Plug-In Issue
Hi, I am trying to get to Report Caster and am receiving that "needs java plug-in SDK or JRE 1.4.2_06. I have tried both the SDK and the JRE options but neither still seems to allow me access to Report Caster on my machine. I vaguely remember having to go to a java link on a new machine at work previously and download something, but I do not have that information now. I am wondering if someone on Focal Point might have some insight? Thanks. (I am on WF 7.11)

Deborah,

Check the installation guide for WebFOCUS. It tells you what release of Java you need for Report Caster. If you are running Dev. Studio on the same machine, you should be ok as the correct java installs along with DS.

Next, go to a DOS prompt and type:

java -version

You may have multiple versions of java on your machine and the operative one may be the wrong one for RC.

Are you running from the URL or Dev. Studio?

Java can get very picky, just a pain sometimes. We went to developer studio version 7.1... which installed a different level of Java. When that happened the report caster on our 5.3.6 machine would not come up. After uninstalling all possible Java on my desktop machine, I ended up using the latest Java 1.6_x version to get all things in sync again. Every time report caster kicks in a run object must occur and based on your machines settings it may or may not be allowing you to do so. If you can install from the Java from Sun's sight, you can get the most current. Of course other things may break. Confused

You might want to check your control panel for the Java App, see if it comes up.

Click on the JAVA tab
Click on Java Application Runtime Settings, View

see if Javaw.exe is registered, if it's not there you may want to add it. javaw.exe is usually in the BIN folder under your java\j2relnnn folder

You also want to bring up a browser window, go to tools/internet options/advanced and check to see if the sun java is checked. You need it for some versions of Report Caster (I think you do for 7.1.1), but it can affect the MRE editor so you might want to turn it on when you need Report Caster and turn it off otherwise.
