I am trying to run a MATCH against 2 HOLD files saved on a server hard drive. My code looks like this:

FILEDEF RESALHOLD DISK E:\ibi\apps\dkyler\RESALHOLD.FTM
FILEDEF RES3SHOLD DISK
E:\ibi\apps\dkyler\RES3SHOLD
-RUN

MATCH FILE RES3SHOLD
SUM UNITS AS 'PRIVCNT'
BY SOORDNUM
BY SOORDTYP
BY SLACT
BY ALPREM
BY PROD_TIER
RUN

FILE RESALHOLD
SUM UNITS
BY SOORDNUM
BY SOORDTYP
BY SLACT
BY AL
AFTER MATCH HOLD AS RESGRP3HOLD OLD-OR-NEW
END

When I go to run this, it not only crashes the agent, but it stops the WF76 server service. When I go to restart the service I get a message that the service starts and then stops. Then I have to reboot the server to clear this error message. Has anyone seen this before and is there a way around this? We are running WF 761 on Windows. Thanks.

To start with, check your FILEDEF statements and ensure that they are complete and each one is on one line.

Once these are correct then try again and let us know the progress.

My second line of code for the FILEDEF looks like this: FILEDEF RES3SHOLD DISK E:\ibi\apps\dkyler\RES3SHOLD.FTM. Somehow the .FTM got lost and if it shows up on the Forum on 2 lines - it was due to the way the post pasted the code - it is on one line in my fex. I moved the 2 FILEDEF lines above a section of code that precedes the MATCH and my fex runs fine. All I wanted to know is why putting FILEDEF code right before MATCH code caused the WF server service to shut off and not start.

A wrong path in the filename will kill the wf agent.

Check these individually run ok by issuing as table commands.

If you have a stream in your input file (sequence without cr lf) which is larger than the wf master buffer (check file to see how big this is) then you will get unpredictable results.

You may have to use recfm F which is used in HOLD FORMAT BINARY to prevent these problems.

This is why HOLD FORMAT ALPHA sometimes does not work - its because a field contains a CR LF combo!

This is an area which IB should address and clarify the specification of FILEDEF because the docs are not very clear on this at all.
