I would love to know how to edit an HTML file in the AppStudio text editor. Right-clicking an HTML file only provides "Open" and "Edit in Windows Associated Tool" as editing options. "Open" opens in the GUI editor. By default, "Edit in Windows Associated Tool" opens in Internet Explorer.

You are going to have to setup the windows associated tool if you want to edit via text editor. Strangely you have to change this setting via:

 IE >> settings >> Programs >> HTML editor 

You'll notice your options are rather limited to options like notepad, word, and excel if you haven't messed with this setting in the past. If you don't plan on using this feature much you can just switch the setting to notepad and make your quick changes.

However if you want to make a lot of changes with a smarter editor, the only way to add options to the list of editors is through the registry. This page is a little outdated but you should be able to look at your notepad registry values and use those for your smarteditor (I was able to do this with sublime and notepad++, two free smart editors).

It is a hassle, but it is worth it. Once you add the registry values open IE and select the desired default html editor. App studio will follow suit.

J, thanks for the registry info. I will do that for EditPlus, but I do think it's ridiculous that there is no HTML text editor in an "application studio".

Apparently, we are now forbidden from using App Studio text editor to edit HTML files. I did not need to change the registry in Windows 7 - I used the Default Programs Control Panel to set htm and html to EditPlus.

Huh, that worked for me too. I swear I tried doing that already, but good to know.

I think Dev Studio is still available for 8.x. But you may have to call to get it.

Oh, we've grumbled. We almost blew the gaskets off FocalPoint, but it didn't make any difference.

I started this thread on 29 July 2014. It's 6 July 2015 and I used App Studio for a short time before abandoning it. I am more productive with Dev Studio and will probably use it until the bitter end.

You can go into Windows and associate a file type to a tool... Control Panel ==> Default programs ==> and Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Set .htm to a third party editor like TextPad or Notepad++... Be careful, you can currupt the htm very quickly and want a backup just in case.
