[SOLVED] Filtered Drop Down Lists
I’m looking for the ability to type text into the value area of a Drop Down List, DDL, like you would enter text in to a text box and have the items in the DDL filtered based on the entered data. It would be acceptable to have a “go” button associated with the DDL which would refresh the contents of the DDL based on the entered data when the button is activated.

Has anyone done anything like this, preferably using DevStudio?

Does anyone know how to do this without a lot of Java code?

I thank you in advance for you suggestions.

OBTW: This needs to be accomplished in 713.

Doug,

There is a good example already on the Forum - somewhere! Unfortunately I can't remember who posted it or when. I would hazard a guess that it was someone like Darryl Hagen though and probably about 18 months ago.

Good luck hunting it down.

Thanks Tony... A bit of foraging and I found the post which, I believe you provides Great insight in to an innovative use of chaining. It was posted back on Sep 18 2007 by Some Great Guy Named "Tony A"... I think this is the same one you demoed at Summit 09... This did help me to discover my main issue (and solidified my understanding of this methodology), through extensive analysis provoked by your post, was due to a typo that stumped me for way too long...

Thanks Again… Good One Tony!

Confused However, I'm still looking for something that allows the user to enter partial text in a text box and have that text box feed a drop down list as a filter. But, we cannot chain a TEXT BOX to a DROP DOWN LIST (easily / with the DS GUI), can we?

Doug,

Indeed, that post did provide the basis for the presentation this year, but the post that I meant was this one and it was by Darryl Hagen in December 2006 so I am content that the old grey cells are not as bad as I thought Wink

Except that it's Hagen, not Hagan. I'm only mentioning this because searching for a posting might be made a bit more difficult if the author's name is misspelled.

Cheers,

Francis.
