We support both MS and SUN versions of JVM where I work.
However, WebFOCUS 5.3 only works with SUN. And we need a way to programatically switch between the 2 versions.
Does anyone have some JavaScript that we could give to our devlopers to toggle between each JVM version so that our 'real' customers don't have to switch between the versions themselves.
thanks

Rich, thats interesting. when we tested 53 we found that it only worked with microsoft jvm and that with sun, we couldn't see the entire page of domains/folders/fexes in Domain builder. hmmm. i think the jvm setting is client side..in the users' internet options. and switching requires a restart. Can you tell us more about your 53 and what happens when you try to use MSjvm?

As Susannah correctly states you normally must change the virtual machine via the advanced tab in the internet options panel from the tools menu and restart the browser.
There is NO way that java script can do what you require because of its security model.
However IF your site allows Active-X you can do it.
This can be modified to dynamically switch via an onLoad/onClick script. However to switch back a user MUST exit via a method other than just closing the browser using the close button or ALT-F4. As doing so would leave the SUN JVM active. ---------------------------------------------- PS. You may have to sign the Active-X dependant on security settings if they are allowed. This message has been edited. Last edited by: <JG>,
To clairfy some comments. The SUN JVM is absolutely required by IBI run some of the Admin tools and the new Graph Engine. I was on a IBI phone call about this and they are using the SUN JVM over the MS JVM as new functions are developed. IBI was under the impression that MS was going to get out of the JVM business.
As it now stands, our graphs with GRAPHENGINE=NEW only work with Sun JVM and some of the admin tools for (I believe) user admin only works with SUN.. I may be wrong which admin piece though.. don't quote me on this one.
