Hi all, I have created a report that enables the user to type in a specific date and employee id to see that employees information. But at the same time I want the report to generate even if they just put in a date. Is there a way it can give them all employees for a date range when the prompt for employee id is left blank?

Yes, you can do that. Use DEFAULT in your report that gets the value. Set the default value to ALL and check for that in your query.

ex:

-DEFAULT &ENAME='ALL';
-DEFAULT &DT='ALL';

TABLE FILE EMPLOYEE
PRINT *
-IF &ENAME EQ 'ALL' THEN GOTO SKIPENAME;
WHERE EMPNAME EQ &ENAME
-SKIPENAME
-IF &DT EQ 'ALL' THEN GOTO SKIPDT;
WHERE EDATE EQ &DT
-SKIPDT
END

if you are at a releative current version of WebFOCUS you can use the FOC_NONE. Here is how it works. Whenever, WebFOCUS see a variable with it value of FOC_NONE WebFOCUS will disregard that line/statement.

So if the variable is blank set it to FOC_NONE like so.

-SET &NAME = IF &NAME.EVAL EQ '' THEN 'FOC_NONE' ELSE '&NAME';
-RUN

Using this all you have to have in the table request is

WHERE NAME EQ '&NAME';

This also allows you to still use the Report Painter.
