Is it possible to call an SQL Server stored procedure for each row in a hold file?

How would the result from the stored procedure be returned?

Of course it's possible. The following is based on a process I wrote some time ago.

SET ASNAMES = ON
SET HOLDLIST = PRINTONLY

TABLE FILE CAR
BY CAR
ON TABLE HOLD AS CARS FORMAT ALPHA
END
-RUN
-SET &CAR = ' ';
-SET &CNTR = 0 ;
-SET &XLINES = &LINES ;

-REPEAT :LOOP WHILE &CNTR LT &XLINES ;
-SET &CNTR = &CNTR + 1 ;
-READ CARS &CAR.A16.

SQL SQLMSS EX dims_common.dbo.sql_proc &CAR;
-RUN

-:LOOP
The proc is executed based on each value of CAR that is read.

The results will come back as SQLOUT. So within the loop, you could do a

TABLE FILE SQLOUT
...
END
