How do you get rid of trailing spaces?

This is actually more of a Focus question than WebFocus. For example, if I have an email address field set as an A32, but the a particular email is only 25 characters, the program tacks on seven blank spaces at the end. I have tried this

email || (' '|quote)

That works if you are merging fields into one, but it still leaves trailing spaces if the data length is shorter than the length of the field.

Please describe why the trailing blanks are a problem and are you doing this in Dialogue manager with amper variables or in report code.

if its a dialog manager variable, use TRUNCATE(varname)
if its in a table, make sure its defined as /AnV
The TRIM function might be useful to take the original field, eg /A5, and define a new field, /A5V ,into which you TRIM off the trailing blanks.
and as francis says, what are you actually doing that trailing blanks are a prob?
