Anyone have any clever ideas on linking through the JDE adapter (DB2) to return only 1 record from the linked file?

FileA:
Code num5
name a26
order a10
.......

FileB
Code num5
Order A10
Cost num7

For each record in A, there may be one to many records in B

All costs in file B are the same for the given code and order, and I am only interested in the cost. Additional matching records in B will contain data I am not interested in.

DB2 does not recognize UNIQUE

Resolved this by creating a sum HOLD file from FileB and then linking to that file. It works, but is less than an optimal solution.

Thanks for any suggestions

using sql passthru...
select
A.CODE,
A.ORDER,
MAX(A.NAME),
SUM(B.COST)
FROM
mylibrary.myfileA inner join mylibrary.myfileb on myfilea.code = myfileb.code and myfilea.order = myfileb.order;

You have more than one "name" for each code and order, so this will return the last one alphabetically. It's one way to work around denormalized data.

You could also use the SQL distinct or unique keywords.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the JDE adapter does not allow passthru even though it is accessing A db2 database. It is not the same as using the DB2 adapter, and does automatically convert dates from JDE's funky julian, and determines decimal positioning for each field.
