I do it all the time with a macro enabled workbooks. Unless it is just an adhoc report, almost every excel output contains a formatting macro. My users are not that sophisticated and we use macros to do a lot of repetitive tasks like freeze panes, turn on auto filter, draw borders (I've never figured out how to do borders in WebFOCUS the way I like and it is just too easy in excel). You can also do a lot of cool stuff like filtered subtotals, auto fit column widths, adjust row-heights and vertical center cells just to name a few.

We have a lot (200+) users and don't want to get into showing them Excel stuff. It's hard enough, sometimes, to keep up with them in the Wonderful World of WebFOCUS (W3) . But, it al works out in the end.
