I am creating a compound report with multiple components using PDF Layout Painter. I added two SQL reports and I gave them different SQLOUT names: SQLOUT1 and SQLOUT2. When I exit the Developer Studio and then re-enter Developer Studio and open up the compound report in the PDF Layout Painter view I receive 'Error Parsing Master File SQLOUT1 (FOC205) the description cannot be found for file named SQLOUT1. This error also is received for SQLOUT2. When I clikc the OK button the report also sometimes opens up ok in the page layout view. However sometimes Developer Studio goes into a Not Responding mode.

I am using a WebFOCUS 7.6.4 client on a Windows XP machine, creating through Managed Reports. Our WebFOCUS server is a LINUX server.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards, David Stohl

Your master file descriptions are in temporary storage, when you exit out of Dev Studio it is erased. It is going to take me a little while to research how to hold your master files and someone else will probably come up with that before I can. But in the meantime give your hold files names that are more meaningful than SQLOUT1 and SQLOUT2 if you are going to use the output very often. And search your documentation for creating master file descriptions (MFD).

This happens in HTML Layout Painter as well. What I do is just hit ok on the error message and move on... one of the reasons why i like just going into the code instead of the gui. Too many crazy things going on in the gui that I can't control - e.g. in HTML Layout Painter, if you have a listbox with multiple selection option, if you re-open this thing in HTML Layout Painter, the multiple is wiped out. Silly thing...

One way that you can handle this is to do a onetime APP HOLD on your SQLOUT files and then delete the .foc focus database file that the APP HOLD creates, leaving the .mas master file definition. That being said, you definitely want to come up with some more descriptive names for your SQLOUT files. (This will help you to understand what they are when you are looking through your Master Files folder later and also ensure that you don't accidentally delete them.)
