Hi All,

I am new to WebFocus 8 and on the first day have run into this challenge. Will greatly appreciate any help.

Problem: I am supposed to create multiple graphs and reports which have data shown for values of a category (column). What client wants is in all reports, data/bars of the charts to have same color for the values of that particular column. For instance
Separate Reports/Charts showing various data of all continents should have same colors for same continent (Green for Africa in all reports).

How do I do this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sandeep and welcome to the WF forum!
There are probably many ways to do this. Here are 2:

1. Providing colors for each field separately

-* File sandeep01.fex
TABLE FILE CAR
SUM
     DEALER_COST
     RETAIL_COST
     SALES
BY  LOWEST COUNTRY
BY  LOWEST CAR
BY  LOWEST BODYTYPE
ON TABLE SET PAGE-NUM NOLEAD
ON TABLE NOTOTAL
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT HTML
ON TABLE SET HTMLCSS ON
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
     INCLUDE = endeflt,
$
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N4,
     COLOR='RED',
     WHEN=N1 EQ 'ENGLAND',
$
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N5,
     COLOR='RED',
     WHEN=N1 EQ 'ENGLAND',
$
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N6,
     COLOR='RED',
     WHEN=N1 EQ 'ENGLAND',
$
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N4,
     COLOR='BLUE',
     WHEN=N1 EQ 'FRANCE',
$
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N5,
     COLOR='BLUE',
     WHEN=N1 EQ 'FRANCE',
$
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N6,
     COLOR='BLUE',
     WHEN=N1 EQ 'FRANCE',
$
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N4,
     COLOR='GREEN',
     WHEN=N1 EQ 'ITALY',
$
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N5,
     COLOR='GREEN',
     WHEN=N1 EQ 'ITALY',
$
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N6,
     COLOR='GREEN',
     WHEN=N1 EQ 'ITALY',
$
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N4,
     COLOR='YELLOW',
     WHEN=N1 EQ 'JAPAN',
$
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N5,
     COLOR='YELLOW',
     WHEN=N1 EQ 'JAPAN',
$
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N6,
     COLOR='YELLOW',
     WHEN=N1 EQ 'JAPAN',
$

ENDSTYLE
END

You can probably arrive to this using DevStudio or AppStudio.

2. Coding a procedure with some Dialog Manager commands:

-* File sandeep02.fex
TABLE FILE CAR
SUM
     DEALER_COST
     RETAIL_COST
     SALES
BY  LOWEST COUNTRY
BY  LOWEST CAR
BY  LOWEST BODYTYPE
ON TABLE SET PAGE-NUM NOLEAD
ON TABLE NOTOTAL
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT HTML
ON TABLE SET HTMLCSS ON
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
     INCLUDE = endeflt,
$
-REPEAT #COUNTRIES FOR &C FROM 1 TO 5;
-SET &COUNTRY=DECODE &C(1 ENGLAND 2 FRANCE 3 ITALY 4 JAPAN 5 'W GERMANY' ELSE OTHER);
-SET &COLOR=DECODE &C(1 RED 2 BLUE 3 GREEN 4 YELLOW 5 BLACK ELSE GREY);
-REPEAT #COLUMNS FOR &L FROM 4 TO 6;
TYPE=DATA,
     COLUMN=N&L,
     COLOR='&COLOR',
     WHEN=N1 EQ '&COUNTRY',
$
-#COLUMNS
-#COUNTRIES
ENDSTYLE
END

Try both and see what suits you.

Thank you Daniel for the quick response!
I will surely try.
Is there a way to make that happen using Style sheets so that I don't have to change anything in the reports. My client indicated towards that. But I figured I have to find that out.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you very much!

Sandeep,
What is your development environment?
AppStudio?
DevStudio?
Editor?
You can probably use the GUI for each report separately. But then if and when there are changes you will have to implement them in each report.
If you use the editor then with Dialog Manager you can probably parametrize your procedure.
If you need more help, we can do some "hands-on" with TeamViewer.

You could put that styling information in a .STY file and, in your TABLE requests, use
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
    INCLUDE=asdf.STY,
$
-* Report-specific styles
ENDSTYLE
