Hi guys,

Q: Why cannot run 2 times-in-a-row an Excel outfile without closing the 1st one?

I mean an mr application shows an htmlpage. Running the report a 1st time choosing Excel (coded EXL2K) as the outfile, lets the excel appear in a different window as requested. When I modify the report paramters for a different excel report, this request does not run. I should close the previous excel page before running the 2nd one.

What can be done on this?

Thanks for your cooperation.

I believe that this is a basic issue with Excel.

Excel will only open the same named file once.

Are you running the same report twice ?

There was a post a year or two ago, that described how to names the returned XLS file, and possibly avout the issue.

Marikaki,
You can add the TITLETEXT to the report which will name the excel report. This will remove the IBI naming convention of WFServlet and allow you to open more than one report.

...
ON TABLE SET PAGE-NUM OFF
ON TABLE SET BYDISPLAY ON
ON TABLE NOTOTAL
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT 'EXL2K'
ON TABLE SET HTMLCSS ON
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
     UNITS=IN,
     SQUEEZE=ON,
     ORIENTATION=PORTRAIT,
$

TYPE=REPORT,
     TITLETEXT='Name of Excel Sheet',
     GRID=ON,
     FONT='ARIAL',
     SIZE=8,
$

Thank you ERINP.

I tried it but it didn't work. Maybe your suggestion is functionnal with different reports that open different Excels? In my case, I meant that I would like to run the same report many times, just with different selections. So the TITLETEXT remains the same...? Is it possible?

Your help is very appreciated.

Can you make the value of TITLETEXT be variable based on the selections made on the report? Use an amper variable that indicates the report selection or selections.

Marikaki,
In the instance of running the exact same report with different parameters this will not work. Unless you can create an amper variable for the TITLETEXT based on the parameters chosen in the report to create a concatenated string of the parameters chosen and use that as the naming convention for the TITLETEXT. This would work as long as the same parameters are not chosen for the output.

Keep in mind that Excel has limitations for the TITLETEXT: Excel limits the length of worksheet titles to 31 characters. The following special characters cannot be used: ':', '?', '*', and '/' when creating the amper variable for the TITLETEXT.

Thanks for the comment.

But I am really far from that since I am so green in webfocus that I can't figure out how to vary an amper variable. I mean vary because for each run I want a different titletext to get different open Excel pages.

How would you code it to get different titletext each time the report runs?

Examples: titletext1, titletext2, titletext3,...

Thank you for your help.

Marikaki,
How many different parameters do you have for this report?
If you have logic in your program that builds a WHERE statement or a BY field based on the &var then you have a start.
If you know what can be selected then create a list of those choices (&vars). I'm sure you have logic that says if &var selected then &var else FOC_NONE or something along those lines. With that being said then all you need to do is create a COMPUTE field for those selections. Something like:
 COMPUTE &var1_Text/A10 = If &var1 NE FOC_NONE then &var1 ELSE '';
COMPUTE &var2_Text/A10 = If &var2 NE FOC_NONE then &var2 ELSE '';
COMPUTE &var3_Text/A10 = If &var3 NE FOC_NONE then &var3 ELSE '';
COMPUTE TITLE_TEXT/A31 = &var1 | &var2 | &var3;

Then simply use the TITLE_TEXT for the TITLETEXT. Something like:
TYPE=REPORT,
TITLETEXT=TITLE_TEXT.EVAL, -* may need '' around it
GRID=ON,
FONT='ARIAL',
SIZE=8,
