Hi,

I'm facing a peculiar problem, wherein we know the name of the Hold file of an existing report but to reverse engineer the report we want to know the actual source code .fex file of the hold file. Any help please?

I would go for a Cygwin solution. Install Cygwin on Windows, which will give you a much more powerful shell that the Windows native command line.

Hi Rojit,

If you're in UNIX/LINUX platform, try this
Two places you need to search

1. cd to ...ibi/WebFOCUS76/basedir and cd to ..ibi/apps
Execute below command
 find . | xargs grep -r "your_hold_filename" *.fex

Thanks,

Hi,

judging by your signature your server also runs on Windows.
Then besides cygwin also powershell could be an option if you have .net installed on your server.

You can try:
-DOS powershell "$findings = Select-String -path 'C:\ibi\WebFOCUS76\basedir\your_domain\*.*' -pattern '&MY_SEARCH_STRING'; foreach($finding in $findings) { echo $finding.Path; }"

Or using a smart programmer's text editor (like EditPlus), you can issue a "Find in Files" command.

Ditto on the EditPlus suggestion. I use it daily to find fexes in our environment.

If you want a free semi-smart editor, notepad++ has find in files now as well.
