Dear all, I am pretty new to Webfocus so please excuse me for asking what is probably a very simple question.

I am creating a report in Report Painter that will display total employee benefit amounts for every employee at my workplace. The columns are [Name], [Benefit_Total_Type_1], and [Benefit_Total_Type_2], and I am ordering by the invisible column [Sort_Name].

My problem is with the totals at the bottom of the report. I am able to get total dollar amounts for [Benefit_Total_Type_1] and [Benefit_Total_Type_2] by using the drop down list in Report--> Output--> 'Apply column totals to current totals in report', but I can't figure out how to also get a count of the [Name] (i.e. total number of employees) to go with the benefit totals . I can't seem to add anything to the the total line that has my benefit totals because it can only be selected as one entire group. I tried placing

Firstly welcome to the Forum Smiler

Without having a column to sum you would normally not be able to achieve what you want without resorting to manual coding.

However, as your post intimates that you have a fair grasp of navigating in RP, define a field and give it a format of I4 and equate to the value 1. Before you close this dialog, click the OPTIONS button next to the FORMAT button. At the bottom you should find a checkbox that will allow you to associate your temporary field with a real one. If your reporting structure is a single segment then you do not always need to do this part, but it doesn't hurt to get into the habit Smiler. Associate your temporary field with the one that you wish to count.

Add your new temporary field to your report and make it invisible. Then add it to a footer with a prefix of TOT - for instance, if your field is called COUNT_OF_EMPLOYEES then add TOT.COUNT_OF_EMPLOYEES. This will give you a count but not necessarily in the location that you need. Without jumping into the code this is probably the best that you'll achieve in report painter.

Thanks for the help everyone! I was mostly able to use the method suggested by Tony to add the count. I don't think I followed the steps quite perfectly, but well enough for what was needed by the end users.

Thanks again!
