Hello everybody,

I have multiple(5) reports on a PDF Layout Painter. I sorted all the reports by the same field(example: Business Name) so that I can set MERGE to ON. The report runs well but it page - breaks after every business. Is there a way to stop the report from page-breaking after every business ?

Thank you very much.

Shravan

Do you have ON business_name PAGE-BREAK or BY business_name PAGE-BREAK per chance?

If you do then you might like to check the manual to see what PAGE-BREAK does.

Other possibility as it's a compound report.
Have you remembered to specify NOBREAK.

However according to the documentation the behavior you are getting is correct.

This is the documented example.

quote:

Syntax: How to Create a Compound Layout Report With Document Composer Syntax

In this simple example using the Car Master File, the MERGE keyword specifies that a Coordinated Report is to be generated. Since the first BY field of each component is COUNTRY, a page will be generated for each value of COUNTRY, with the first report (Sales) positioned at (1 1) and the second report (Fuel) at (6.25 1).

Enter the following syntax in the Text Editor tab of the Document Composer.

SET PAGE-NUM=OFF
COMPOUND LAYOUT PCHOLD FORMAT PDF
SECTION=S1, LAYOUT=ON, MERGE=ON, ORIENTATION=LANDSCAPE, $
PAGELAYOUT=1, $
COMPONENT=Sales, TYPE=REPORT, POSITION=(1 1), DIMENSION=(4 4), $
COMPONENT=Fuel, TYPE=REPORT, POSITION=(6.25 1), DIMENSION=(4 4), $
END
SET COMPONENT=Sales
TABLE FILE CAR
"Sales report for " "
SUM SALES
BY COUNTRY NOPRINT
BY CAR BY MODEL
ON TABLE HOLD FORMAT PDF
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
TYPE=REPORT, FONT=HELVETICA, COLOR=RED, SQUEEZE=ON, $
END
SET COMPONENT=Fuel
TABLE FILE CAR
"Fuel efficiency report for " "
BY COUNTRY NOPRINT
BY HIGHEST MPG
BY CAR BY MODEL
ON TABLE HOLD FORMAT PDF
ON TABLE SET STYLE *
TYPE=REPORT, FONT=HELVETICA, COLOR=BLUE, SQUEEZE=ON, $
END

Tony,

I did not set PAGE-BREAK ON.

JG,

Do you know if there is a way to bypass / avoid this default behavior ?

Thanks.

It's a feature of MERGE=ON unfortunately.

The only way that you can get around it is to actually merge your data
and then generate a single report.
But that can only be done (some very complicated work around is possible)
if everyone of the compound components has exactly the same format for
each column which I doubt they have, otherwise you would probably not be
using compound reporting in the first place.
